In a few days Toms Ballet Flats will launch all over the US. They will be available online on their website or you can snatch them up at the nearest Department Store (Nordstrom) if you are in the States. But make sure you're one of the lucky ones who are on the waiting list! Because the shoes are sold out before even being launched!

I'm particularly fond of the black one with the beige tip and purple side! Such a sleek combination.

They are currently being displayed in Nordstrom but not available to try on.

If You're like me crazy about rice puddings Don't visit that place it will disappoint you!! just like all the frozen yogurt places all over the world!! I found this place in New York that sells rice puddings called "Rice to Riches". They offer rice puddings in more than 15 different flavors and you can also choose a topping.. I've heard a lot about this place but when I finally got the chance to try it I didn't really like it, the flavored pudding don't really taste as good as it sounds.. I still favor the traditional Egyptian style rice pudding!!

How to shave ? (Men's Cure for ingrow hair)

This post is dedicated for our Male viewers. So here you go :
1- Wash area with non irritant soap, and use a rough wash cloth in areas with "ingrown hairs".
2- Rinse area with water, then compress face with WARM tap water for several minutes.
3- Using a shaving cream of your choice, massage moderate amount of lather on area to be shaved ( do not allow to dry; if it does, reapply it)
4- Use a sharp blade and shave WITH the grain/direction of the hair using short even strokes (no more than twice over one area)
5- After shaving, rinse with tap water and then compress with COLD water for 5 minutes.
6- Using a magnifying mirror, search for and dislodge any embedded hairs with a STERILE needle/toothpick.
7- Finally, apply the most soothing aftershave preparation of your choice. If excess, a topical corticosteroid cream or lotion (1% hydrocortisone) can be used as the aftershave preparation.

When I first landed I was very impressed with their airport.

At the airport I took a local phone line which costs 1000 Rupee (2.500 Kd) including Bbm and internet service for one week trip.

Just because you look Arab you get pulled off?! these students were traveling to attend their conference over Thanksgiving break, instead they spent five hours being questioned with no good reason to be treated that way. People need to understand how they felt when they called out their names in the plane and ordered them to leave and the looks they got from the other passengers on board.
I just want to be clear on this, no matter what nationality you are, you need to be treated with respect. We left our families and country to get the education but not to be treated as criminals. As a student myself here, I find this very racist and unethical. Why didn't anyone overseas hear about this? Our Gulf countries should step up and say something to protect our students and most importantly our religion!

Pedicure Police!

If you suffer from recurring ingrown nails, then you must read this post.

Most beauty salons (if you're a female) aren't professionals in dealing with ingrown nails. For example, they'll cut the nail in a round shape as opposed to a straight line. This will eventually cause ingrown nails to keep recurring.

If you're a male you probably cut your toenails yourself and also might cut it in the wrong way and cause ingrown nails to happen again and again. Also, you might cut your nail to short or too round and eventually make the nail look deformed.

Most females are prone to ingrown nails because of tight fitting round/ pointy toe shoes.

Sometimes its not even an ingrown nail, it could actually be hard skin that is under the nail and it causes pain when your keep wearing tight shoes.

This all leads me to what most people should do to fix this problem: Dr. Scholl's Pedicures. Not only are the technicians all nail professionals, but they also know how to fix most foot problems.

My week with Marilyn

Some people might be confused, so lets start with clearing some stuff out. This movie in NOT a biographical film, and that's why its called " My week with Marilyn".

Now that being said, I walked into the movie theater not knowing what exactly to expect but tomy surprise, was absolutely blown away. I was initially very reluctantto accept Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe, one of the most beautiful andglamorous women of all time, but she was extraordinary. The film entire istop-notch. The entire cast is fantastic. Not to forget the set pieces, cars,and costumes all capture that time period incredibly well, too.

This movie showed the character from two aspects; one as the star Marilyn Monroe and second the person without the fame.

The screenplay manages some keenobservations on the nature of celebrity obsession, the art of acting,and depression that people sometimes tend to forget. Personally, I never knew Marilyn had another sad side, rather I always thought of her as the most beautiful woman of her era.

I recommend watching this movie and I would consider it one of the best for this season !

Lately I've been chewing this chewing gum which I believe I got from the States.

You know how you chew gum and after a while there is no flavor and its like you're chewing on rubber. Or, when you chew gum and after a while you're sick of the taste. Well this gum is just the opposite! You chew, chew, and chew, and not only does the flavor last, but the flavor keeps changing. Like at first its stawberry-like, then its minty, then its lemony, etc etc etc.

If you're in the States I recommend you stock up on these before you're back!

Versace for H&M Madness!

I wasn't excited at all about the collaboration since I'm not really a Versace fan. Also, when I looked at the collection it really wasn't my style. But, the leather jacket caught my eye and I really felt that I wanted to have it. So after getting the invites from Al Shaya to attend the Versace for H&M collaboration, I was super excited, and wondering what the VIP invitations would turn out to be.

I arrived by 7:30 and saw a long line already formed at H&M's enterance in Avenues.

I headed to a sales lady and happily asked where the VIP section was. Not only did I have a VIP invite, I had 3 invites, so I was looking forward to top notch treatment. She pointed to the other side of the line, only to another equally long line! What a shocker.

So I asked her "What's the diference between the VIP and the other one?"

She replied, "VIP will enter first followed by the normal crowd."

I asked, "How long after we enter will the normal people enter?"

"20 minutes", she said.

So I waited in line, clueless as to what would happen next.

At 8 the shutter outside H&M started to open up and girls started screaming, and everyone hoarded in; VIP, non VIP, waiting in line or just standing. I. WAS. SHOCKED.

I was very disappointed in the lack of organization since I know as a fact in both the US & London, these events are managed differently. First of all a few people get to enter together for a certain period of time, and then must leave and let the next batch of people in.

Oh my god the chaos at the store was unbelievable. I just reached the clothing racks to find them completely empty and people were grabbing 5 or more of the same items at a time.

I really applaud the staff because it was so hectic, full of people pushing, screaming, and grabbing. It was truly undescribable. Also, everyone started queing at the store room instead of wating for the racks to fill up. They would just grab the clothes from the sales people as they walked out of the store room.

On the other hand, I got everything I wanted! I got the leather biker jacket, a fur vest, and leggings. They came in funky garment bags.

I really hope Al Shaya plans to organize whatever collaboration is coming up next (Tom Ford?) in a much more civilized manner.

Finally Tangle Free!

When we were younger, the secret to tangle free hair was simply Johnson & Johnson's No More Tangles shampoo.

As we grew older with all the damage we have done to our hair (sun, heat damage, color, etc), its not as simple. While many detangling sprays work wonders, it doesn't make the hair 100% tangle free.

We just got our Versace for H&M VIP passes and can't wait to go tomorrow morning! It was extra hectic last time at Lanvin for H&M but this time there is just one item I must get my hands on! Will post it if I manage to grab it before it sells out!

If you are looking for a new TV show to watch this Fall, then Revenge should be one of your top candidates. This show is surprisingly interesting in every aspect; the story, the events, the houses and the dresses.

Revenge tells the story of Amanda Clark, a young determined woman on bringing everyone down or just getting back at them (hint the name revenge). The people shes going after are a very rich people from the Hamptons who took her father away from her when she was a little girl.

The show is truly great! There is mystery, taste of revenge, love story, fashion, money, and most importantly a lot of good looking people.

Today the weather was considerably cooler in Kuwait.
More people are doing activities outdoors.. Its the best time of year to shift your exercise from the gym to the great outdoors!
Walking in the "mamsha" is really enjoyable now. Bicycling is also a fun activity to take on in this weather. People are having outdoor yoga sessions as well. The horse stables are wonderful this time of year, if you've never tried it, head on to any of the Riding Schools in Kuwait and learn. Another popular activity is outdoor tennis. Many gyms have outdoor tennis courts and if you're a first-timer there are some great coaches as well. Golf couldn't have been funner, head to Sahara resort! Coming up are a few marathons, if you're interested, sign up and start training!
If you're not really an active person, just sitting outdoors with good food and great company is certainly an uplifter. Remember, laughing burns calories!
Cozy balcony gatherings, or rooftop dinners are fun and lovely. Munch has a killer BBQ stand its a must try, and saj stands are wonderful for gatherings, too. Have you tried Knafa 3al baal (or is it 3ala bally knafa?) Kunafa stand where the guy makes a fresh kunafa from scratch in front of you..

We've all been eagerly waiting for the nicest time of the year, and clouds are in the sky again! Joy!

Peonies are pretty flowers that can be so versatile used for different occasions and in different themes. They are so lush and full that you really can't resist looking at them or touching them.
First off feast your eyes on some of the prettiest pictures of peonies...
They come in so many different colors, from pretty pastels..

To gorgeously radiant colors...

You might see them a lot in weddings, in the bride's hand bouquet...

They are large in size compared to the majority of flowers. They are gorgeous both in bloom and unbloomed. They can also look both modernly chic...

They are very feminine, and look/feel like marshmallows, cotton, and clouds.

This game is really fun, you can have 2 or more players. Its entertaining and very easy to learn for beginners. Its funner than Monopoly and more fast-paced, too. I guarantee you'll at least play 4 times in a row.

We keep using our friend's set because surprisingly its sold out everywhere, even in London! Also, very fun to play in outdoor gatherings in this lovely weather we are currently enjoying in Kuwait.

Fish N Chips

Craving fish n chips can be a dilemma, especially when you crave the ones from London.. while in Kuwait.

Not a dilemma anymore, since I stumbled upon this little place: Organica Fish N Chips

Not only do they serve the best Fish N Chips in Kuwait, but they also have some excellent organic foods to purchase such as pasta, flaxseed, and couscous.

The ambiance of the place is something else. Its very "Fishermen's Warf", relaxing, and cosy. To top that off, its super clean- we saw the chef change his gloves a few times (huge bonus points).

So this is how our meal went in the Jabriya branch:

We ordered fish n chips, "man fries" , and tempura prawns on skewers.

The prawns were good, but we can get them anywhere. THE FISH was amazing! No odor, super juicy soft fish that practically melts in your mouth. The batter was just the right amount of crispiness and never got soggy. It wasn't too oily either. I'm not a big fan of the fries because they were too soggy and oily.

They serve the food with some excellent sauces and a LOT of lemons. Just perfect. In fact, I'm craving it all over again now while I write this post.

The waiters are super friendly and will tend to you at all times (never left waiting for a waiter).

They serve pizza too which I must try soon.

Finally, when you're done with your meal they conveniently provide bowls of warm water, a lemon, and a wet towel.

PS: They have deep fried Mars bars for dessert, I wouldn't dare try it, its not for the weak ;P

Magnetic Nail Polish

I finally tried the Inc. Magnetic polish. And let me tell you this.. its AMAZING! The result you get from the magnets are unique!

It took me exactly 15 minutes to do my nails. The result felt like I did it at a nail lounge. The best thing about it; is that its so easy to do. Here's the steps:
1) apply the first coat to all 10 nails.
2) apply a second coat on one nail at a time then hold the magnetic nail polish cap close to the nail for 5 seconds.
And that's it !!

If you're in the mood for a good laugh, then you must watch Johnny English. Its playing in the theaters in Kuwait, and the censorship is not that bad, you still get what is going on in the movie.
I kept thinking I was watching a good old Mr. Bean episode.

Some scenes are downright hilarious.

Don't expect a serious plot and point of the movie, but its not that silly either. Just good old comedy.

Shu Uemera's eyelash curlers are by far the best eyelash curlers in the market. It is a Japanese brand, and Japanese eyelashes are known to be rebeliously straight. I've tried different brands like Revlon and many others, but have never found one like Shu Uemera's. They are very sturdy, and don't pinch if you use them correctly.

If you've never used an eyelash curler they can look very intimidating or scary. But in fact they are extremely gentle and the results do great wonders. Investing in one, preferably Shu Uemera, is highly recommended. It will become an essential part of your daily makeup routine.

Eyelash curlers are a great compliment to mascara. A personal favorite is YSL's Faux Cils mascara because its thick and black, the wand is not too thick, and most importantly it contains Castor Oil to help aid eyelash growth.
I used to buy Shu Uemera eyelash curlers from Sephora but I believe they don't carry the brand anymore. It can be found in any department store in USA or London (ex: Nordstrom, Selfridges).

With today's sudden "disconnection" of blackberry users, more and more people (I included) have vowed to switch to iPhone.
Blackberry users lost internet, bbm, and e-mail access since today afternoon.
No, don't blame Zain, Wataniya, nor Viva, this one comes from the big daddy, RIM. Even users in Europe are disconnected.

What a fail! What a disgrace. When we buy products we expect top-notch service. But hey, mistakes do happen.

Bake This: Peach Dump Cake

Yes, the name doesn't sound appetizing, but considering how easy this is to make, how good it tastes, and these mouthwatering pictures, you can't resist.
I found this recipe on Bakerella's website and as soon as I saw it I had to try it.
Check the link to get the exact recipe.

Here are step by step pictures that you can follow:

Firstly, you can use either canned or fresh peaches. Also, you can use cherries or other fruits instead.
The peaches need to be in a syrup (canned peaches). Pour the contents into the pyrex/dish you will be using. Next, skip to the part after the peaches are in the dish.
Or, follow my recipe below for using fresh peaches. Soak the peaches in hot water.

After a while, put the peaches in a bowl of ice. This technique is to peel the peaches quickly.

You'll notice that the skin will literally "melt" off. You can easily pick off the skin:

After the peaches are peeled, slice them and put them in a pot over the cooking stove. Using medium to high heat, cook the peaches in a way similar to apple pie filling. I used lemon, nutmeg, and cinammon.

Stir occasionally, and the juice from the peaches will intensify.

When its cooked (not too soggy) pour into pyrex. (IF YOU USED CANNED PEACHES, START FROM HERE)

Use ready yellow cake mix and pour the contents ontop of the peaches in the pyrex/

Cut the butter into cubes and place ontop of the cake mix.

Next, the brown sugar.

And finally, the chopped nuts.

Ta-da ! Its ready for the oven.

I saw this movie a few days ago and I recommend watching it.

Its a different side to "September 11". Also, its a good perspective on Muslim Americans- something that might be new to us Arab Muslims. Unlike 99% of 9/11 movies, they focused on different aspects of that day, as opposed to focusing on the "monster Muslim terrorist".

Currently snacking on: Khalal
Its the season for Khalaal NOW. Make sure you get them from your palm tree or the date souq before they ripen and turn brown and soft.
Khalal at this stage are raw and not yet ripe. They are crunchy and taste so sweet and bitter at the same time. They are great for snacking on, and you can only get them at this time of year, so hurry up!

Khalals are a good source of fiber.

Not all khalal taste the same, some are more bitter than others. I prefer the sweeter tasting ones.

I bought this book back in July for my American friend, who's always interested in learning Arabic. When I saw this book and went through it, it cracked me up. It has all the daily words and sentences you need but in Kuwaiti Slang. They wrote the translation for the word in English and how to type them using English letters. Which I think is much better. My friend is learning so much faster now and every day I get a text from her that makes me laugh so hard and proud as well. K. Ahmad Ali Sultan did an amazing job and thanks to him a lot of people will be learning more Kuwaiti Slang.

Its about a girl who suddenly discovers her unique gift: she can taste people's emotions from eating the food they make!
Its such a fascinating idea and I'm curious to know what the novel is all about.

Charming Santa Barbara

If you're ever visiting the States, or are near California, try to make a visit to Santa Barbara. Its a charming place to be for a quick getaway, or a weekend. Its a casual romantic beachy place with pure charm. Santa Barbara is the typical Californian beachy city with tall palm trees lining up the shore, sans the hectic fast paced lifestyle of LA. It is more mellow and calm.

It has hotels lined up by the beach shore, and a long street, State Street, for lots of walking, shopping, sitting at cafe's, or renting bikes.

There's a small boat pier where you can take small sunset boat trips right at the beach end of State Street. Or, you can ride a horse along the beach.

Other than numerous fun activities to keep yourself busy with, they have some cute restaurants like The Andersens, an amazing place for typical Danish breakfasts where they serve you divine almond croissants as you wait for your order, or an Italian restaurant with a gorgeous seated patio with candle lit tables to dine in as the sun sets.

I haven't tried this tour below, but it seems like a fun ride.
